Bells, Mallets, and Winds

This New Sounds is chock-a-block full of unusually textured new music, featuring some percussion-based works and other recent arrivals which may or may not incorporate wind families of clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, and then add to that hammered dulcimer, zither, marimba and/or accordion.

For those keeping score, we'll sample Hardanger fiddle and possibly even harp in music from the Christian Wallumrod Ensemble. We'll also hear Toru Takemitsu's work "Rain Tree" for percussion. Then there's music from French reed player/composer Louis Sclavis, San Francisco-based composer/clarinetist Beth Custer, and Dutch sax player/composer Jorrit Dijkstra, and more.
